My Cataract Surgery

GBE BLOG ON:WEEK #74 Cobwebs

My Cataract Surgery-
Knifing the Cobwebs off my Cloudy Lens

My cataract surgery was long overdue as I’m a real chicken when it comes to hospitals, in spite of my husband, son and daughter in law being doctors. Finally, with strict orders from the family, I mustered enough courage and reluctantly agreed to let my eyes go under the knife!

D-day arrived! As the paramedical staff  led me to the operation theatre I felt like I was being taken to the guillotine, nay, the electric chair! By simple logic, I concluded that since the hospital is so very plush with modern state of the art equipments, the guillotine would be an outdated gadget. So the electric chair it is!

Inside the theatre, I felt trapped and chained by the green robe, the cap on my head and the huge machine above my face. Any thought I had about fleeing the theatre in panic, was swiftly abandoned by the formidable masked medical specialists surrounding me. Then, my surgeon’s soothing voice wafted over my cotton stuffed ear asking me to relax and assured me that the procedure would be over in no time at all. The anesthetist being a woman sensed my panic and kindly touched me to calm down and I clung on to her hand for dear life!

Suddenly in a flash, my eye was taped, eyelashes clipped and the bright light was switched on. I was fully conscious and because of the anesthetic drops instilled in my eye, I felt no pain as the surgeon made the micro-incision on the side of my cornea.

Having no other choice than to lie still, I decided to humor myself by listening to the machine which was making very interesting noises, like the sounds of my video game! In between the intriguing sounds, I think the machine made very dramatic noises thrice. I assumed that maybe the first dramatic noise was when the ‘phaco’ device emitted  ultrasound waves to soften and break up my cloudy lens. The second time was possibly when it is removed by suction. The third dramatic sound was perhaps when the original lens is replaced by the folded lens,by inserting it through the tiny incision. The folded lens is supposed to unfold once in place in the eye. Of course these are my presumptions as I'm totally ignorant of medical topics! Then, there was just short beeps like when my video game is nearing the end and as suddenly as it began, the tapes over my eye  was peeled off , my lashes unclipped and I was asked to get up. Halleluiah! It’s over and done! The procedure took just about 6 minutes but those 6 minutes felt like 6 hours!

When I walked out of the theatre back to my room, I nearly died! Died? Yes, died of relief! I don’t think that there is any word or idiom called ‘died of relief’ but that’s exactly what I experienced at that point of time. Anyway, since there were no stitches, I was allowed to go back home right away. After a week, I underwent the same process on my other eye!

The first couple of days after the surgery, I viewed the world through slight blurry eyes, but now, everything is so very crystal clear. In fact, everything seems a lot brighter and the colors sharper like when I auto-correct or auto-bright my blurred photos! *Hearty Laugh* I now survey the world with a blue-ish tinge which is  supposed to be normal as I am looking through clear lens that is no longer cloudy. It seems, within a few months my brain will get used to my new clear vision and these colors would go away .Whatever!

Well, now that I have got over my cataract surgical episode, I look back and laugh, ‘What’s the big deal! It’s a cake walk!’ But then, I would never ever like to go through this experience again, however simple! :)

Bridge Over Troubled Waters

This  post is for a 100 word picture prompt in. Faith Fiction Friday -

A walk through the woods brought me to a quaint bridge, with water running under it! The picturesque bridge reminded of the beautiful song ‘Bridge over troubled waters” by Simon & Garfunkel. Personally, I adore Elvis Presley’s version! Whatever!

Coming back to the bridge, isn’t Christ the bridge who helps us cross over troubled waters? The troubled waters are the trials, temptations and turbulence of this life. Without a bridge we would be in the waters. He cares enough for us, to build a bridge when we need it the most! Christ is our bridge over troubled waters, the one to get  us past the tough times!
‘For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus’  1 Timothy 2:5 (NIV)

All In The Training

This  post is for a 100 word picture prompt in...
Faith Fiction Friday # 8:All in the Training.

  Train!
    Recently I read a snippet from a newspaper :
British hurdles world champion , Dai Greene, had to run across a train track while  a speeding  oncoming train was just 300 meters away, for a rail track death awareness campaign ! In the advert, even Greene, an agile athlete, struggles to cross the tracks safely, as rain, grease and other hazards hamper his progress. The message is loud and clear. When a trained, alert and swift  athlete strives to cross the track , how can untrained ordinary people hope to make it across the track?  A powerful message!

Like wise, only people who have trained themselves to submit their will to God,by praying faithfully and obeying  His commandments , can cross life’s hurdles however hazardous.

A Prayer:
“Show me your ways, LORD, teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day.” Psalm 25:4-5.

Lemon to Lemonade

This 100 word post is for 'Faith Filled Friday # 6' picture prompt.
Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

'When life gives you lemons, make lemonade!' What a delightful positive saying! You may even add extra sugar to make it sweeter, more ice to make it chiller and drink it for more energy to move on.
Many a times this bittersweet life of ours, squeezes the juices out of you, testing your faith, making you feel helpless and depressed. But then, you can turn your trials into triumphs by constant prayer, totally trusting God, and submitting completely to His Will. He will give you the inspiration to make the best of a bad situation !

'Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.'
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

With God beside you, surely you can handle all the lemons life gives you - just juice them right and enjoy the benefits of their healing properties!

Waterfalls By The Still Waters

This post was written for the picture prompt in Faith Filled Fiction...

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos
As I watch this picturesque scenery I see God's perfect creation in all it's pristine glory! The sun kissed sapphire sparkling water sliding down the protruding rocks and smoothly dropping onto the still bluish green waters, the lush green tall trees and the clear blue sky! They all reflect God's perfect handiwork in making a paradise on earth for us! Unfortunately, for humanity to survive we have to disturb God's perfect nature !
As we journey through life we are wrought with many trials and troubles which are beyond our control! The waterfalls, still waters and the lush green tall trees have symbolic meanings to my life!
The Waterfalls:

"Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of thy waterfalls;
All thy waves and thy billows are gone over me."Psalm 42:7 .
Many a times trials have swept over me without warning like a tsunami ,before I could even realise what hit me ! I have stood watching helplessly , unbelieving , not knowing what do !
Just like the waterfalls, crashing down, cascade after cascade, wave upon wave ("deep calls to deep") my overwhelming troubles have crashed over me, till I felt like I was drowning in a sea of troubles. (thy waves and thy billows are gone over me.)
Yes, my faith has been shaken, doubt has crept in,but by spending more time with God,I have now built a fort of strong faith around me to defend me against periods of doubt!

The Still Waters:

'He leadeth me beside the still waters,'Psalm 23:2
Many a times I have been parched, and needed to be led to the cool, still waters! God has answered my prayers and has given me peace, quiet and contentment in my mind , amidst my difficulties! And whatever my lot has been, His Grace has led me to have tranquility and serenity in my mind!

The Lush Green Trees:
He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit."
Jeremiah 17:8
This is God's promise to those who trust in His word and have unshaken faith and trust in Him.

And finally this is my daily prayer:
'At the river I stand Lord, guide my feet and never let go of my hand, precious Lord.'Amen.

My Seven Deadly Sins

This post is for "WEEK #59 (7-1-12 to 7-7-12): The Seven Deadlies: Pride, Envy, Wrath, Gluttony, Sloth, Greed, Lust'

I am guilty of the seven deadlies ! Well, not exactly me, but the writer in me! It's like this.Till recently, my writings were limited to blogging and I have just started writing prompts and 1000 worded fictions. I know..I know..I am a late starter.Anyway, the writer in me harbors all the seven deadly sins!

1. Pride: When I wrote my first 100 word prompt and published it, I was vain ! I am at par with all the Booker awardees, am I not?

2. Envy: I am envious of the awesome work done by all those writers out there. Why am I not able to dish out writings like them?

3. Gluttony: I have an inordinate desire to consume as many writing tips as possible since I have just embarked on this new writing journey.Surely this gluttony is pardonable ?

4. Lust: I do lust after the words, letters and sentence formation I am yet to master!

5. Anger: I am angry and absolutely cross with myself for not starting to write earlier.

6. Greed: I have an avaricious desire to acquire more and more writing skills .It is greed, right?

7: Sloth: I waste a lot of time playing online games like FarmVille and Solitaire instead of creative writing. Is playing these mindless games slothful?

There..there..I have confessed! Am I purged now?

Flying Away!

This 100 word post is in response to the picture prompt by Faith Fiction Friday.

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

We should always be ready for 'take off' to fly away to our eternal home!

While our home is in heaven, we have a responsibility here in this beautiful world God created for us.We have to live the life we were meant to live, within the parameters set by God.

He has commanded us,'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'Mathew 22:37-39

God has gifted us the ability to love, have compassion, show kindness ,be caring and to live in peace and harmony.Use them!

Above all, realise the power of prayer and forgiveness!

Remember Jesus had said, "I have given you an example, that as I have done, so should you do."(John 13:15)

Inspiring Scenery

This 100 word post is for Faith Friday Fiction prompt...

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

I gazed at the awesome calm scenery and reflected that it has so much meaning for me! I saw the huge rock in the forefront, the uneven rocks, the stream and the colourful trees.

Jesus Christ is the solid huge rock I lean on!
The uneven rocks remind me of the rocky path Jesus tread while carrying the cross for me !
The stream reminds me ,“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you.' (Isaiah 43:2).
The trees tell me that a man who delights in the law of the Lord is "like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither."(Psalm 1:1)

When the Lord lives within you ,you will see God's manifestation all around you!
